30 April 2011 Lion Nelson was in Ipoh a day in advance and kept President Lynda, Yvonne, Jessie & Irene posted on the Registration of Delegates which was held at Tower Regency Hotel thereafter proceeded to Syuen Hotel for Certification of Voting Delegates. Than we proceeded for tim-sum lunch at Restoran Foh San. Buses provided to Indera Mulia Stadium for the 3-hour Opening Ceremony graced by DYMM Sultan Perak Sultan Azlan Shah. MD 1st Plenary Session followed thereafter and delegates were transported back to their respective hotel for the Sub-District Fellowship Dinner. D308B2 dinner was held at Excelsior Hotel whereby the highlight was the Award Presentation. At this juncture, President Lynda expressed her sincere appreciation and thanks to all members cooperation & support for making this possible.

1st May 2011 Lion Yvonne attended the School for President-elect while President Lynda, Irene, Nelson and Jessie attended the Leadership & Membership Conference where we learnt about GMT and GLT [Global Membership Team and Global Leadership Team]. Lunch was hosted by Lions Club Georgetown Mutiara for Lions from Kota Budaya, Singapore Fort Canning, PJ Metro and us at a Seafood Restaurant. D308B2 Convention was held at Syuen Hotel, followed by Election of DG/VDG via our voting delegate President Lynda and Secretary Yvonne. Our Convention Banquet was held at Syuen Hotel for early birds and the rest of the delegates had to settle for New Hee Lai Ton Restaurant.

2nd May 2011 Members attended the Necrology Ceremony at 9 am followed by the Closing Ceremony and MD308 Final Plenary Session. Announcement of our DG/VDG-Elect for 2011/12.

Personally for me, the highlight of this Convention is all the speeches by the eloquent Past International President Kajit Habanananda, whether its 5 mins or 20 mins am truly entranced by his charisma. The one that stands out most in my mind is when he spoke on our Lions Logo "Proud of our Past, Confident of our Future". He added that we got to look far beyond the two faces on the left and right. The "L" in the centre which denotes the Lions in each of us is equally important. Majority of us need to find ways to fill up the "hollow cavity" in each of us, to be a more respectable Lion.

50th MD 308 Lions Convention shall be held from 19-22 April 2012 at The Pullman Kuching as the Convention Hotel, however delegates from 308B2 shall be at Grand Margherita Hotel, Kuching. 30 March 2011 Fellowship hosted by 2nd VDG 2011/12 Candidate Lion SN Tai of Subang Jaya attended by Lions Katherine, Yvonne, Irene & Nelson. Event held at Damansara Palace Kota Damansara, PJ attended by over 70 pax.

“Protect Your Kidneys, Save Your Heart” was officially launched at the World Kidney Day at LG2 Orange Wing Sunway Pyramid on 13 March 2011 at 10 am with varied activities including an awareness campaign exhibition to raise awareness of the importance of our kidneys and our overall health, highlights on diabetes and high blood pressure the key risk factors for chronic kidney disease (CKD) and its link to cardiovascular diseases.

Guest of Honor, NKF ambassador Dato Chef Wan demonstrated creative salad making while Lions Club PJ Metro took charged of the Amazing Kidneys Colouring, Drawing Contests and Tile Art Painting Contest for children and adults. Our club raised RM800 from 16 photo opportunity shoots at RM50 per shot while Lions Club PJ City took charge for the Sure Win Lucky draw for a mere donation of RM20.

Cancer patient Mdm. Ta Eng Chien

IPP Nelson Wong visited Mdm. Ta on 6 March 2011. Suffered from kidney cancer and had her right kidney removed in 2008, but the cancer has spread to her lungs in 2010. Currently, she is on Sunitinib costing RM4,300 per box from UMMC, however the medication has caused some side effects like skin rashes and vomiting. 23 Jan 2011 President Lynda, OC Jessie with Lion Josephine and Peggy formed part of the 31 Lions Clubs in a Joint Project between District 308B1 & B2 in conjunction with World Leprosy Day held from 10 am to 1 pm. Jointly with Lions Club Ampang City Garden and Lions Club KL Bukit Kiara, we were assigned to Ward 52 housing 10 ladies inmates. After chatting and handing out goody bags and ang pow to the inmates, we adjourned to the Community Hall for entertainment of singing by various guest and Lions / Leos & harmonica performance. 19 Jan 2011 OC Katherine delivered groceries to Chong sisers and Aunt of Chong sisters graciously invited me to join them for a simple dinner at their home. They expressed thanks and gratitude and were very happy to receive our groceries and and RM200 ang pow, timely for the forthcoming Chinese New Year.

20 Jan 2011 at 4 pm, OC Katherine delivered RM100 groceries to Mdm Lu Pui Lin & Choong Brothers. Unable to make home presentation due to parking constraint. Nevertheless she was very appreciative of our groceries donation and RM200 ang pow.

At 5 pm met up with Mdm Gan Ah Leong at a coffeeshop nearby Connaught to hand over 2 sets secondary school uniform worth RM90 & school bag for her daughter. Club sponsor groceries worth RM100 and ang pow of RM200. She explained having a challenging time coping with both her children.

Sunday 16 Jan 2011 Luncheon organised for 21 inmates of Rumah Love & Care, Kajang and 12 children from Kaizen Children's Home, Semenyih was attended by President Lynda, OC Jessie, Nelson, Yvonne, Chwee Chin, Peggy, Irene, Katherine & Poh Ling with guests included Jamie Low, Lion Eric Foong of PJ Metro, Rachael Foong, Lois Lui, Irene Chow, Roland Ong, Charmiane Ong & Harold Ong.

Thanks to our generous cash sponsors who made this event possible namely Mdm Jane Wong RM1K, Ms Wong Yoon Tze RM1K, Mdm Irene Chow 33 pkt ang pow, Mdm Koh Ngat Hoon RM200 and Mdm. Cindy Tan RM200.

Amount collected was utilized for purchasing 200 pcs Yong Tau Foo for lunch, groceries worth RM500, children educational toys worth RM200, personal bathing towels, face towels & toothbrushes worth RM300 and 3 ctns Adult Diapers costing RM462.

Vote of thanks to Mr. Robin Chang for donating a used 34" Samsung TV & Mr. Charlie Foong a used 21" Philips TV as their TV was recently strike by lightning. Gan A Leong's daughter from SRK[C] Confusion school. Thanks to Lion Nelson & Lion Irene for their assistance on the delivery while OC Katherine co-ordinated with both school principals.

SRJK [C] Kwong Hon Vice Principal Puan Soo proposed that in future, we should consider supporting the child school bus fee instead, as it has escalated from RM80 to RM150 per month.

The wide selection of food & fellowship kept all of us together for over 3 hours!! President Lynda thank all in attendance & wishes all members a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year 2011!!

12 December 2010 Assisted in CARES [Cancer Childhood Caring Society of KL] Annual Children Event "Telematch" held at Indoor Stadium Titiwangsa from 9 am to 3 pm. Led by President Lynda with her daughter Esther & two colleagues, Katherine, Nelson [as videoman], Jennifer with both her children & Jessie lend a helping hand in soliciting prizes, registration, food counter, games marshalls & photograper. Mr. Tey Kock Yew of NLY Group of Companies sponsored RM10K for this event. Executed a total of 15 games for 3 age categories and event ended with tag-of war between volunteers and parents. The Club donated RM500 towards this event.

Congratulations to all 17 Members for making it a 100% Club commitment as Contributing Members of LCIF for 2010-2011. Your Pin will be presented to you accordingly. Bravo PJ Mutiara!!

Getting enough blood supply during festivals and school or college holidays are especially challenging because donors are often away on holiday or celebrating with their families back in their hometowns, and organizers are less inclined to hold blood donation drives during those times. So Zone 17 Lions Clubs comprising Lions Club PJ, PJ Metro, PJ Mutiara & PJ City decided to perform their fair bit to maintain a consistent blood supply for the National Blood Bank at Tropicana Mall, PJ on 14 Nov 2010.

The first benefit one gets from donating blood is the joy from performing an altruistic act, which is difficult to explain physiologically because it is more psychological and emotional - basically, you would feel good. Thanks to Lion Poh Ling being our sole able donor from the Club.

The event was made possible by Newage Sdn Bhd for donating 200 each of Cuticura Orange Sanitizers, Freeman Guava Scrub, Freeman White Grape Body Lotion & Freeman Hand Firming Lotion and 200 bottles Oxygen water from 02 Plus Sdn Bhd.

Visit to the Home for Special People in Cheras on 3^rd October 2010

Attended by OC Chwee Chin, President Lynda, members Josephine, Yvonne, Katherine, Jennifer & Jessie from 11.45 am – 12.30 pm. Club’s budget of RM200 used to purchase the assorted “yong tau foo” by Lion Kat for lunch, while Lion Jo assisted in purchasing a few packet of pre-packed herbal soup & large packet of mee hoon as per their request.

Other donations included ; 10 kilo rice, some coloring sheets & used children clothes from Lion Jessie, 10 kilo rice from Lion Kat, Instant noodles, mee suah, chilli powder, gula Melaka from Lion Yvonne, 10 kilo brown rice, 2 tins Jacob biscuits & a table salt lamp from OC Chwee Chin and some soft toys from OC’s friends.

Members arrived at 11.45 am with the intention of serving lunch for the children, however, the Secretary of the Home Mr. Ten Yen Han informed that the children already had lunch as there had an unavoidable impromptu visit from another group from the temple.

Currently the home has 15 children ranging from age 5 to 27 years, of which 6 are boys. They are either autistic, down syndrome, physically deformed or mentally retarded and all the children sleep downstairs taken care by 4 caretakers. Monthly expenses are about RM11,000 of which RM1,300 is for rental and RM4,800 for salary of the 4 caretakers at RM1200 each, while the rest are for the utility and other expenses for the daily running of the home.

WONG SU JEAN age 12 years student of SJK[C] Chee Wen of Subang Jaya has taken the first step to becoming an internationally recognized artist by winning the local competition jointly organised by the Lions Club PJ Mutiara & Leo Club of Monash University Malaysia.

Out of all the posters created by the 40 participants, Wong’s poster was selected by judges Ms Anne Law Chi Ying, Ms. Jade Tan Wuan Yean & Mdm. Goh Wan Leng for its originality, artistic merit and best portrayal of the contest theme “Vision of Peace”.

Judges & Members were impressed by the amount of effort exhibited & creativity expressed by the participants. It’s obvious that these young students have strong ideas of what peace means to them and we are proud that we were able to provide them with the opportunity to share their vision with all of us.

Our club is cheering for Wong Su Jean as her poster advances in the competition and we hope that her vision will ultimately be shared with others around the world. We are also pleased to announce the 1^st runner-up went to 11-year old Mindy Yap Minyi of SJK[C] Mun Yee, Kuala Lumpur & 2^nd runner-up went to 13 year old Chong Pui San of SMK Pandan Indah, Kuala Lumpur. Prizes were awarded to 10 merit and 11 consolation all given out by President Lynda Yeng witnessed by R7C Nelson Wong and 9 members.

16/09/2010 VISIT CHONG SISTERS AND CHOONG BROTHERS.

In conjunction with Mid-Autumn Festival, members decided to visit the Chong Sisters with their Aunt & Choong Brothers with their mother. Led by OC Irene with members Nelson, Nancy, Jamie, Josephine, Poh Ling, Chwee Chin and Jennifer they arrived at the Chong sisters rented room at 10.15am with our RM200 groceries. After chatting with the Aunt, members decided to donate additional RM300 to assist in settling the rental. Members took them for lunch thereafter.

After lunch, members adjourned to the Choong brothers low cost apartment at Bandar Tasik Selatan, KL. They were delighted to see members and the Chong sisters and Aunt. Members handed over RM200 groceries here too. Vote of thanks to Lion Wee May for sponsoring the mooncakes for both families.

Meeting was called to order by Presiding Officer Lion Sang Chin Chye of LC Subang Jaya followed by the National Anthem. Dinner commenced immediately after the Welcoming Address by OC Ln Mejar Patrick.

Three course after, we had the customary 3 toast to the King, Sultan of Selangor and Lions Clubs International followed by Roll Call. About 200 Lions/Lioness/Leos and guests grace this event. Lions from Taiwan, Miri, and saw many B1 Lions support.

Induction of 2 new members from LC Subang Jaya and Sunway was conducted by PDG Kenneth Saw followed by Installation Ceremony conducted by DG Hudson. The simple ceremony saw him installing all the BOD first followed by all the 5 Presidents. The 5 Presidents than gave their Acceptance Speech and DG was invited to deliver his Address.

DG's address touch on the new angram for LIONS : Loving Individuals Offering Needy Services. His Vision & Mission, LCI Theme "Beacon of Hope", District Theme "Serve with Passion", his goals and the MOU Signing with District 308B1 for 5 different identified ares of high level joint cooperation specifically for Leo Clubs, Youth Exchange Program, Sight First, Inter-District Relationship & Leadership Development.

Token of Appreciation was presented to DG Hudson and PDG Kenneth the Installing and Inducting Ceremony. Thereafter, more token was presented by LC of Miri and Taiwan to LC Subang Jaya. The meeting adjourned at 10.30 pm followed by Fellowship.

20 JUNE 2010 Sorting goodies for our Student Welfare program & Handicapped Home was attended by OC Katherine, Irene, Lynda, Josephine & Jessie. Arrived at Lion Irene’s residence at Sg. Long Cheras at 11.00 am. Sorting completed at 2.45 pm including interval for fried lin ghow, kueh-mueh, honey lime and coffee.

Our first stop was to Home for Special People at 35 Jalan Rakan 11, Taman Rakan, Cheras Kuala Lumpur. Met by Mr. Ten Yen Han (016-5159746) the Secretary and also a volunteer, he explained that this home was set up 9 months ago, and currently taking care of 13 children who are down syndrome, spastic, cerebral palsy, hyperactive or autism. Some of them are orphan while some are from single parent home. We donated 2 dozens shampoo, honey, black sauce, brown rice drinks & oats crackers for our inaugural visit.
Our second stop was to the Lovely Disable Home in SS2/3, PJ unfortunately no one was at home, so we decided to donate the stuff similar to the above to PJ Caring Home at PJ Old Town.

As for the Student Welfare, we will be donating 1 set uniform + socks + shampoo + mechanical pencil + 2B pencils + 1 set fork & spoon + Pelikan color set + glue + one packet oat rice biscuit for 35 Tai Thung Students, while the 36 Kwong Hon students, they too will have all the above items with an additional school bag.

Total coupons sold by members valued RM1,000 bank-into Dharma Light Monastery and coupons value donated by Jackie's friends valued RM3,476 which was utilized to purchase toiletries, foodstuffs for our Student Welfare program and Rumah Love & Care Kajang both the old folks home & their children home in Broga.

Cash donated to our Club totalling RM3,100 from 5 donors, namely Ms Wang Chiew Kien RM2,000, Mr Mong of Intellitech Technology Sdn Bhd RM300, Ms. Julie RM100, Aster RM600, Ms. Ang RM100 will be utilize for school uniforms, socks, lunch sponsorship for our ongoing Student Welfare Program.
