followed by lunch at Tram Car, PJ before members of Georgetown Mutiara &
Singapore Fort Canning headed home.

HOSTING OF JAPANESE YOUTH EXCHANGEE BY RCC YER4 LION LYNDA YENG & FAMILY FROM 6 –8 JANUARY 2008
For 3 days Lion Lynda, her three angles Jamie, Jasmine, Esther and supporting husband Lion Low Chee Sing hosted 21 year old lanky lad Ryo Shinada, who is also the leader, from Niigata and 20 year old Yusuke Nagahara from Fukushima. Prior to staying with them, both youth was hosted by family in Ipoh.
As usual they were taken to a few places of interest in the city and enjoy fabulous home cooked food.

at U-Bowl, One Utama, P.J. OC Katherine Yong

Had a really fun, exciting & cheerful project in U-Bowl with members (Lion Lynda with her husband Lion Low CS & their 2 lovely daughters, Jasmine & Esther in one team, Lions Josephine, Jamie & myself in the 2nd team with Lion Poh Ling & Chuah came for moral support.

Most of the players are YMCA members, staff & friends making a total of 14 teams (3 players in a team). We started the game at 2.30pm to 4pm. Light meal at 4.15pm & prize presentation at about 4.30pm. Unexpectedly we were so lucky, winning the 3rd position, the prize is a hamper sponsored by Lion Jamie plus another cash $50 sponsor by the YMCA, but subsequently we all agreed to redonate the hamper to YMCA committee and they in turn donate to the 4th position team.

Majority of them communicated via sign language, therefore the event were very quite but you can feel and see that all of them looks excited & energetic, exception of Lions and our guests, the noisy lot - talking & laughing away.

15 Nov 2008 3.30 pm President Nelson, OC Katherine & Jessie visited kidney patient Mr. Leow Chooi Khoon at Urology Dept General Hospital, Kuala Lumpur. He is much better and was able to sit up when we visited him. President Nelson personally awarded RM120 to his daughter Leow Hui Yin who scored 6A 1B for her UPSR. Club spent RM100 to purchase groceries for the family too.

CARES Caring & Loving Party, theme "Colors of Malaysia" saw 101 children from UMMC, HUKM and GH registering at the Grand Ballroom, Grand Seasons Hotel, Jalan Pahang, Kuala Lumpur as early as 9.20 am. With their parents and some siblings in tow, the whole event saw over 300 guests. This year we had a few singing performance by children from the various hospital and special performance by Ning Baizura, Faradina, Shruthi Jayashanker much to the delight of all present. CARES Patron Dato Tan Chai Ho was represented by his P.A. Mr. Chiew Lian Keng, JP, MCA Youth Chief for Wilayah Persekutuan.

Mr. Tey Kock Yew of NLY Group of Companies once again generously donated RM10,000 to CARES for the 3rd consecutive year. Guests were treated to a sumptous buffet spread followed by a few activities stalls for the children to participate which included race car track, free dancing corner, games corner, costume corner, pop corn & cotton candy corner, chocolate fountain corner and favorite was the balloon and lucky draw prize corner.

I would like to record vote of thanks and appreciation to the following sponsors namely Mr. SK Ooi who sponsored RM1,000, Mr. Chan Boon Teik, Ms. See Mee Chuan & Lion Patricia Tan who sponsored RM200 each. With RM1,600 in hand we purchased 150 pcs face towels @ RM5.50, 150 pcs large Disney sand art @ RM4.00, strawberries, bananas, marshmallows & chocolate confectionary for the chocolate fountain. Thanks to Mdm. Jane Wong for loaning us the chocolate fountain & Mdm. Shirley Tham who sponsored 150 juicy red apples.

Lastly thanks to all Lions & guests volunteers led by President Nelson as the main videoman, Chwee Chin, Patricia & daughter Jia Jing who took care of the chocolate fountain corner, Ms. Regina Wong in charge of Fujifilm instant shots, Yvonne, Katherine, Ms. Kathy Wong and Ms. Julia Tham in charge of sand art activity corner. Education Welfare Services. 20th October 2008 Pesident Nelson, OC Katherine with May and Irene presented 17 sets of school uniforms to needy students of SJK (Cina) Tai Thung, Jalan Ipoh, Kuala Lumpur. Lion May Tan generously sponsored RM300 for monthly expenses to Wang Jia Heng and Choong Wey Xuan for three months.

12 October 2008 Colourful Flavours Food & Fund Fair in aid of National Kidney Foundation held at 3 Two Square, Jalan 19/1, PJ was supported by Lion Lynda Yeng & her family who home-made over 200 curry puffs to sell.

President Nelson, Jamie, Nancy & Jessie visited the fair after the Go Green Walk, purchased food for home & met up with friends and Lions once again for a worthy cause.

Bravo to Lion Lynda for churning those delicious chicken puffs. Heard she cut potatoes, onions & chicken until her hands ache!!! Thanks for your tremendous effort Lion Lynda.

12 October 2008 at 8 am Launching of "Walk for a Greener Tomorrow" by Leo Club of Monash University went off with a resounding success and according to their program. OC Leo Joeanne Wong was indeed very happy and relieved with the project well supported by Corporate bodies and students. Heard commendable speeches from President Nelson, Wong Mr. Rahula W.A. the student community services manager & wrapped up by Encik Adly Mohamed the CEO of YAWA (Yayasan Anak Warisan Alam, Malaysia). Three trees were planted to signify the launching of the project followed by presentation of token of appreciation by Leo President Garry Lin. Thereafter, participants warmed up with light exercises before the Green Walk commenced at 9.00 am. Participants took about an hour and the event wrapped up with many lucky draw prizes given out. Congrats to Alt. Leo Advisor Jamie for being the first winner but she re-donated her prize, making another participant happy. Kudos to all Monash University Leos for a commendable project.

Jasmine's 4th Anniversary Dinner & Charity Line Dance "A Touch of Love" held on 11/10/08 at Sri Petaling Community Hall, KL from 5 - 11.30 pm raised RM3,500.00 for our "Education Welfare Service Project". OC Josephine was part of the over 320 enthusiastic & vibrant dancers who dance for over 7 hours non-stop! ! President Nelson assisted by his son Levin was in charge of the audio video console while Lion Lynda, Jamie, Katherine & Jessie assisted in ushering & serving at the buffet counter. Trip to Gabai Waterfall, Ulu Langat on 2 October 2008 organised by OC Katherine, participated by Lion Josephine, Jamie, Jessie with Eric, May, Irene with niece Tomiko & classmate. Thanks to President Nelson for taking time to meet up at Pekan 18 Ulu Langat for Hainanese breakfast and sponsored 2 bunches of bananas despite his other assisgnment.

Was pretty packed when we arrived and after spending a very cold and refreshing 2 hours at Gabai we had our lunch. Resting against some rocks and letting the water fall directly from above is so energizing. Than we decided to survey Chongkak Recreational Forest and stopped at the stream recommended by the coffeeshop owner for another picnic. We had to consume all the 20 Tong Kay egg tarts sponsored by May and 20 packets nasi lemak/mee hoon sponsored by Katherine, fish balls from Jo, honey dew, prawn crackers & ice cream from Jessie.

We headed back to the Hainanese coffee shop to get our fresh bread & kaya with another round of aromatic coffee courtesy of Jamie before we head home around 4.00 pm. Another enjoyable outing to those who participated. I don't know about the rest, but I had the most wonderful sleep from 6 pm right up to the next day!!!

PEACE POSTER CONTEST "PEACE BEGINS WITH ME"
HELD AT ONE WORLD HOTEL, BANDAR UTAMA, PJ
ON SUNDAY 28 SEPTEMBER 2008

Eager parents, grand parents & guardian were at the Concourse of One World Hotel, PJ as early as 8.00 am to register their children for the coloring contest (2 categories) and Peace Poster contest. Response were overwhelming indeed, 30 registered for Peace Poster, 63 for coloring contest category B ages 8 - 10 years and 42 for category A ages 5 - 7 years. Venue was held at the elegant Maple function room and parents had to leave their children to color and paint to the child's hearts content. Prizes were generously sponsored by Mega Arts Industries and some Lions members. Judging were conducted by DC Peace Poster Contest Tan Guat Beng, two Graphic Designers, Mr. Jason Chan Hei Ci, graduate of Lim Kok Wing Institute of Creative Technology Malaysia and Ms. Lee Soon Cheng graduate of The One Academy Design & Communication College. Congrats to both Organising Chairperson Lion Kam Poh Ling and Leo Sharon Tan for another successful project completed.

RETREAT TO SANDAKAN 6-8 SEPT 2008
After months of planning, 8 of us finally got on a retreat led by OC Jamie Chen to her birthplace and savour all the local food we can digest, one hour after another (no joke). To sum up the trip, it was an experience to behold - hitting a snake on the way to Labuk Bay, imagine going on a 4WD adventure on a 2WD wheels, our Wira got stuck in mud at 6km LB, but thanks to the orang asli who came to rescue 4 damsels in distress and most drama was the 4WD wouldn't start when we were suppose to go collect our frozen fish and head to the airport. And we have mechanics trying to jump start the 4WD with his 2WD. Whole retreat cost RM500/pax inclusive of air, hotel, transport, food, adventure, fellowship and lots of money for our tail twisting at the coming meeting.

10.00 am President Nelson, Jessie, Josephine & Chwee Chin (car 1), Katherine, Irene, Jamie & Karen (car 2) met at Polis Station Batu 9, Ulu Langat and Katherine led the way to the hot spring. With pails & towel in hand we entered the hot spring. Unfortunately President Nelson had to be separated cos ladies enter on the right and men on the left. Thanks to Lion Katherine for sharing this new "hotspot" and we had a really "hotie-therupatic" time soaking our feet. Katherine and Irene both had hot bath to loosen their body aches due to always "making money syndrome".

Lion Irene than took us to Look Out Point Restaurant at 14th mile Ulu Langat which command a magnificient view of the KL skyline, unfortunately the clouds was moving in fast to cover the sunrays for a perfect arieal view. Thanks to Lion Dr Karen Lee for hosting our coffee break before we head to Langat Seafood & Beer Garden for our sumptous seafood lunch & at this juncture, Lion Chuah and his wife joined us. Our 7 course lunch cost RM297.30 very satisfying indeed plus fresh from the tree chempedak and pulasan as dessert courtesy of Lion Katherine.

Members agreed that we should do it one more time with Yvonne, May, Poh Ling, Nancy & Lynda joining. This time make sure to bring big pails (water must at least cover your knee) and another set of clothes to experience taking the hot bath. You will be surprise to see some aunties bringing children bath tubs to soak themselves!!!

29/08/08 9th Annual General Meeting held at Oversea Restaurant, Jaya One, Petaling Jaya was attended by 100% membership. PP Irene Hoi presented a Customary Token of Appreciation to President 2007/08 Jamie Chen. Sumptous dinner was hosted by IPP Jamie and karaoke follow suit.
